In pictures: Kenyan presidential candidates cast their ballot

Eight candidates are vying for the presidency in kenya's General Election that is being held today. Tuesday 8th August 2017.

The candidates were cleared by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) in May 2017. The candidates voted in different polling stations around the country.

President Uhuru is running under the Jubilee party. He was the youngest President in the country’s history when he was sworn in 2013. He was 51 years old.

Before his election, Kenyatta was a Deputy Prime Minister in the grand coaliation of President Mwai Kibaki  and Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

Raila Odinga is contesting the presidency for the fourth time after unsuccessful attempts in 1997, 2007 and 2013.

He was the Member of Parliament for Lang’ata from 1992 to 2013.

He is the flagbearer for the National Super Alliance (NASA), and his running mate is former Vice President Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka.

He is the son of Jaramogi Oginga Odinga, who was Kenya’s first vice president.

Mohamed Abduba Dida is the only Muslim candidate and was a high school teacher of English Literature and Religion.

His running mate is Titus Kusolo Ngetuny. Dida is vying for presidency for the second time.

He voted at PCEA Mai-a-Ihii Primary School in Kikuyu. He is a former Literature lecturer at Kenyatta University.

His running mate is Miriam Muthikwa Mutua – the only woman in the race.
