The war against drug trafficking received a boost as Kenya Revenue Authority officers and the police seized 100 Kilograms bhang believed to be worth Sh 6.63 million in Migori County.
In the first incident, the Customs and Border Control Officers working with administration police flagged down a suspicious Toyota Fielder station wagon at Bondo Nyironge area, which turned out to be carrying the narcotic.
Six gunny bags containing 1157 stones of bhang and other seven rolls weighing 226.80kgs were found in the vehicle. The two suspects who were ferrying consignment fled hence escaping the arrest.
A similar operation yielded fruit as another 379.8 kgs of bhang was intercepted by the Customs and Border Control Officers in Nyatike, along Muhurubay- Migori road.
The consignment was believed to have been smuggled from the Tanzania and was being ferried to an unknown destination. The police have since seized the motor vehicles and the consignments, and have launched an investigation.
A statement from the Commissioner of Customs and Border Control in Nairobi has indicated that various government agencies have joined hands to not only boost security but also stamp out the illicit trade.
This incident adds to the bulk of the many drug trafficking cases that have been witnessed in Migori County.
Back in 2016 November, police raided a farm in Suna West constituency and uprooted and burnt bhang worth Sh1.2 million.
