Match preview: Bayern Munich VS Arsenal

Kenya’s public universities students should be a worried lot because the Government of Kenya and the University Academic Staff Union (UASU) officials have failed reach an agreement over pay raise the lectures have been demanding for.

Speaking on Friday the UASU secretary General Constantine Wasonga said that a meeting that was convened on Thursday between Universities Councils Consultative Forum (IPUCCF) and UASU did not translate into anything meaningful to resolve the ongoing lecturers' strike.

He further said that they will not accept will not accept the 10 billion deal the government was offering to them terming it as a raw deal.

According to Wasonga, they are going to announce a massive nationwide strike if the government does not do as they want.

He urged all their members to down their tools terming the Monday strike as the mother strike that will push the Government to listen to their grievances.

Going by what the lectures were offered an assistant lecturer whose current salary is Sh69,794 was likely to get Sh113,165 per month by the end of 2013-2017 CBA while that of a professor will be 240,491 on the upper limit.

However the Education Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i said that talks were going on well. According to him, there are certain things they are working on before they reach an agreement.

He so far said that he is pleased with the ongoing talks and he was optimistic that the lectures’ strike will end soon following the talks.

Meanwhile, a total of 30,000 university workers are set to benefit from the ongoing negation between the Government and UASU.
