Be Different This Valentine

February, unlike its predecessor, is a month of love and it runs so fast. I mean it only consists of not less than 30 days as opposed to January which has, pun intended, not less than 90days.

This month being the month of love it’s only "normal" that you do anything to show love, lots of love to your partner.

But unlike you, I feel the whole idea of valentine is and has always been misplaced, to sound like a Kenyan politician, maybe I should say misquoted in Kenya, perhaps the entire Africa.

The fact that we are highly hypocritical as Kenyans is not a subject of debate. Take for example Christmas. Once a family, always a family.

You cannot abandon your parents in grass-thatched, mud-walled houses with almost nothing to eat only for you to show up on Christmas in your fuel guzzler with a Yellow-yellow who speaks through her nose and start disturbing the quiet village in the name of celebrating the birth of Jesus with the family.

Does that mean that we are not family during those other months? Including the 90days of January!
The same hypocrisy has been replicated to this day of valentine.

Most of us use this day as a scapegoat to either be good or bad.Take for example one Mr. John who plans to fly out of town with his girlfriend for a special treat at the amazing Diani Beach at the Coast. His budget reads nothing less than sh150,000 just for 2days.

John aside, there are lots of people, all over, even on social media pages claiming that they have zero plans for the Valentines since their better halves, get this, are not planning to spend anything on them.

People, mostly ladies talk highly of valentines as if their lives depends entirely on it.

Today I am so generous (with almost everything) therefore this is my unsolicited advice to lovebirds and prosperous lovebirds.

To men; It's not only on Valentines that you are supposed to spend a fortune to show love to your beloved one.

Showing love, buying chocolates and flowers should be our character. It should be in us naturally to love and cherish our women in all the ways we can not only in February but even in the merciless January.

Dear Ladies; if there's any memo that went round saying that Valentine is for men to "treat" their women to expensive dates.
Saying that women should not give but only receive gifts from their men, then I stand here testifying that I did not receive such memo!!Ladies too should learn to give gifts during such moments.

This is not the time to "eat" his money like he has signed his death certificate. It's not the time to make him spend his lifetime savings to make you happy just for a day.

Therefore let us be different this Valentine. Let us drop the old custom of red dresses, let us do green and white, yellow and orange colours. Yes. Do not let valentine come and go with love between you and your loved one. Do not let Valentine cost your arms and legs, it’s not worth it.
