Former Nation employee jailed 16 years for stealing Sh10 million

A former employee of the Nation Media Group (NMG) has been sentenced to 16 years imprisonment after the court found him guilty of stealing at least Sh10,205,027 from his employer. Davis Kaunda Osoro, who until October 2012 worked at the Commercial Department in the company’s Kisumu office, was charged with six counts of stealing by servant, contrary to section 281 of the penal code.

According to the charges leveled against him, Osoro between February 1, 2011 and December 31, 2011 jointly with others absent from court, stole the said sum of money, the property of NMG that had come to his possession by virtue of being an employee.

Osoro was also charged with fraudulent accounting where he falsified cash sale books series numbers with intent to defraud. He was further accused of stealing Sh5,459,423 between January 1 2012 and September 30 2012, a crime he undertook in collusion with others who were not before court. The accused however denied the charges that had been leveled against him.
