Police recover the body of murdered passenger in Eldoret

Eldoret: Police in Eldoret recovered the body of a man dumped in a thicket in Kiplombe area of Uasin Gishu County.

The deceased had severe injuries on the head and the body had indication that his assailants might have used crude weapons to clobber him.

Eldoret Officer Commanding Police Division (OCPD) Samuel Mutunga said residents stumbled on the body and alerted the area Chief.

“My officers recovered the body of the man who had been murdered by unknown people and we have launched an investigation to establish the motive of the murder,” Mutunga said.

A passenger receipt recovered on his trouser pocket indicated the man travelled from Nairobi to Eldoret using a Nissan matatu on Sunday night.

The OCPD said the receipt had only one name and police could not immediately establish his identity.

“We are trying to gather some details about the deceased since the murder report was made at Baharini police station .We are trying to trace his relatives,” the OCPD said.

The OCPD said they are also looking for the matatu which the deceased used to travel from Nairobi to Eldoret on Sunday night.

"We have the details on the travelling receipts and we are using the information to identify the vehicle which the deceased used. We already know which shuttle company he boarded from Nairobi to Eldoret,” he added.

The body of the deceased was moved to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital Mortuary (MTRH).
