Uhuru-Raila meeting was waste of time

The Tuesday State House meeting between President Uhuru Kenyatta, his deputy William Ruto and CORD leaders Raila Odinga and Moses Wetang'ula was unnecessary.

It was a waste of time because the Constitution is very clear on how the country should be run. The law guides us on how to solve problems such the case of controversy surrounding the IEBC commissioners.

Those who advised the President to convene such a meeting were after their own agendas and nothing to do with trying to find a solution on the IEBC stalemate.

In fact, the meeting, which was to look for ways of solving issues of IEBC, favoured CORD leaders after they claimed the President had bowed to pressure and decided to call them.

The Presidential Strategic Communication Unit (PSCU) made a big blunder by failing in the first place to make Kenyans aware that the President was to meet the Opposition chiefs.

By the time PSCU clarified about the meeting, social media was awash with information that the President had bowed to pressure to meet CORD because "he cannot rule the country without the support of the Opposition".

Jubilee should know that politics is about propaganda and, however much it does on issues of development without a good communication strategy, it will not go far.

What has become absolutely clear is that State House has no clear strategy on communication and that is why the Government's efforts to implement all that it promised Kenyans during 2013 elections have gone unnoticed.

CORD is capitalising on the communication weakness in Jubilee to spread propaganda that Jubilee has not done anything to change the lives of Kenyans.

But a lot has been achieved since Jubilee took over as in the case of railway, improvement of roads, the establishment of two referral hospitals in every county, connection of electricity to all primary schools and the neighbouring people, access to clean drinking water just to name a few.

However, due to the fact that there is poor communication, CORD is taking advantage of the situation to give the impression that the Government has not initiated any tangible projects to improve the lives of Kenyans.

The meeting of CORD and Jubilee in State House was, therefore, a waste of time and was unnecessary. Jubilee should improve its communication strategy.
