A chief attacked during a raid on illicit brew dens, has accused the Administration Police officers, who had accompanied him, of collaborating with his attackers.

Speaking at his home in Chemasis village, Maji Tamu Location chief Totona said the three APS who had accompanied him during a raid at Arusto village in Rongai Sub-County, had all vanished when he was attacked.

"These officers should be investigated. It seems they collaborate with illicit brewers because at the time I was attacked, they were nowhere to be seen," said Totona.

Totona had on Friday morning led a team of chiefs and APs to one of the homes in Arusto village, notorious for selling illicit brews. "We recovered 20 litres of changaa and arrested a culprit, unfortunately on our way back to the station, rowdy youths attacked us and in the process the culprit escaped," he said.

His vigour to fight the illicit liquor, however, turned tragic the following morning, when his attacker emerged from a nearby thicket and shot him on the thigh.

He was rushed to Rift Valley Provincial General Hospital, where he was operated on and the arrow removed. He has now appealed to the Government to provide chiefs with firearms to protect themselves.

Despite this, Totona remains unbowed saying, "I am determined to fight the illicit brew menace. I will continue with the crackdown once I recover."
