Court declines to suspend Tunoi tribunal

Activist Okiya Omtatah said unless the case is heard and determined, the rights and fundamental freedoms of Kenyans will continue to be violated.

The High Court has declined to suspend Judge Philip Tunoi’s Tribunal proceedings pending the hearing of the application filed by an activist.

Human rights activist Okiya Omtatah moved to court under certificate of urgency seeking temporary orders suspending the tribunal's operations until a qualified person is appointed to head it. He argued that President Uhuru Kenyatta and Attorney General Githu Muigai accepted the appointment of Sharad Rao, knowing he was not qualified to sit in the tribunal.
