Chuka University closed following students’ riot

Police officers in collaboration with Red Cross members put off a fire after Chuka University students torch university bus during a riot protesting outcome of elections of Students Council on February 8. The rioting students also barricaded the Meru-Nairobi Highway for hours before stoning both private and public vehicles including a police land cruiser. Chuka University has been closed indefinitely following chaos sparked by disputed student elections. The university administration took the drastic step yesterday afternoon after students went on the rampage, destroying property after they disagreed on the outcome of Students Council elections.

They barricaded the Meru-Nairobi road, destroyed school and private property before torching a university bus. Students allied to a poll loser claimed the election was rigged.
