Not much likes for the ‘dislike’ button on Facebook

Facebook's 'like' button is pretty popular but users have often asked for another button that will allow them to express their feelings of discontentment.

CEO Mark Zukerberg may have finally acceded to the pressure and the social media platform is said to be considering adding a "dislike" feature to posts that will enable users to convey empathy and react to posts that are not positive.

Sure, one can write lengthy messages in the comment area expressing what we feel regarding a post, but many users have longed for a much simpler way of instantly expressing opposing emotions such as by simply tapping on a button.

Facebook, however, went ahead to clarify that the new feature will not be a thumbs-down 'dislike' button as many had hoped, saying they do not want to turn their social network into a platform where people vote up or down on posts.

Nonetheless, this news has set the social space abuzz as dissenting voices emerge. Those against this new move argue that the dislike button will damage relationships while others worry it will increase bullying and other kinds of aggressive etiquette online.

While the greatest worry appears to be that the dislike button could be misused and will encourage negativity, it may still end up being a valuable tool for users.

Such a button could come in handy when one wants to express caring and compassion for example when showing concern over someone's loss of a loved one.
