Kieni MP Kanini Kega seeks to compel State to compensate kin of terror attacks

Kieni MP Kanini Kega has withdrawn a censure motion against National Assembly Majority Leader Adan Duale.

However, the MP declared he would instead table a Bill in the National Assembly that will ensure the government compensates victims of terror attacks.

The Bill proposes that each family of Kenyans killed in terror-related attacks be paid Sh5 million. “We met at a hotel in Nairobi as Central Kenya MPs and resolved to push for each family of terror victims to be paid Sh3 million from the National Government and extra Sh2 million that will be raised by the county where the attacks took place,” said Kega.

He noted that if passed into law, the Government would be compelled to take more stringent measures to  boost security in terror hotspots.

The MP, who caused ripples in Jubilee circles after he announced his intention to table a censure motion against Duale, said he withdrew the motion after Central Kenya MPs saw the need to find a beneficial solution for terror victims.

The legislator spoke at Gathathini village in Chaka, Kieni sub-county when he and Nyeri Deputy Governor Samuel Wamathai presented cheques to widows of quarry miners who were killed in a  recent attack.

During the event, the Nyeri County Government donated Sh113,000 to each of the 11 families that lost loved ones in the Mandera quarry attack.

During the ceremony, Wamathai annoucned that the County Government had signed an agreement with Kenya Pipeline Company to have  a petroleum depot constructed in the Chaka area.
