The inclusion of Kenyans from all communities and backgrounds in the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) symbolises the country's unity, President Uhuru Kenyatta has said.

He said KDF has proved to be an institution whose essence is the foundation of diversity inspired by integrity and professionalism.

"It is sustained by patriotism and selflessness. As I have said on other occasions, our defence forces represent our national values in action," said President Kenyatta.

The President spoke today at the Recruits Training School in Eldoret where he presided over this year's passing-out parade.

Commending the Kenya Defence Forces for their selfless service to the nation, President Kenyatta said Kenyans appreciate that the forces are often called to serve in the most dangerous conditions and even pay the ultimate price for the sake of the country.

"I want to emphasise here today that we do not take this for granted," President Kenyatta said.

He also praised the KDF for their professional conduct throughout Operation Linda Nchi, saying their exemplary conduct in service under the African Union has effectively supported the civil authority.

The Head of State urged the new service men and women to uphold the high standards required by the service in order to enjoy a meaningful life and contribute to the national well-being.

He said the Kenya Defence Forces are a highly esteemed international brand, with a reputation in peace-keeping.
