Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission wants Cabinet Secretaries charged with graft

More corruption related files were yesterday sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions with recommendations to prosecute at least three Cabinet Secretaries who were under a corruption probe.

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission also recommended charges against two principal secretaries, two governors and three parastatal chiefs, who were recently questioned.

The commission is under pressure to cover all the 175 cases that were named in the list of shame before a deadline it was given by President Uhuru Kenyatta lapses.

"The files are with the DPP and more will be sent there tomorrow (today). They have recommendations to charge and we expect at least three CSs to face charges," said a source aware of the probe, but who asked not to be named.

But the DPP may refuse to charge the officials and order the closure of the files or further investigations.

Mr Tobiko confirmed there were more files on his desk, which he was perusing but declined to give details on the same.

The CSs grilled so far include Kazungu Kambi (Labour), Charity Ngilu (Lands), Felix Koskei (Agriculture), Michael Kamau (Infrastructure) and Energy's Davis Chirchir.

EACC detectives have also grilled four principle secretaries, two senators, 12 governors, and 11 other senior Government officials who include heads of parastatals.

They are all on suspension.

This came as the commission finished grilling Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto over allegations of corruption in his county.
