Moi hails partnership between local, Israeli university

Kenya: Former President Daniel arap Moi has praised plans for a tripartite partnership between University of Haifa from Israel, Kabarak University and Moi University in the fields of agribusiness, dairy production and floriculture.

Speaking at his Kabarak residence, the former head of state who received a group of professors and technical experts from University of Haifa termed the partnership exemplary and timely.

Moi said the two local institutions would gain tremendously from the Israeli knowhow.

"These seemingly small projects would, collectively make a positive impact on the national economic development," said Moi who is also the Chancellor of Kabarak University and the founder of Kabarak learning institutions.

The local team was led by Moi University Vice Chancellor, Prof Richard Mibei, and Kabarak University Vice Chancellor, Prof Jones Kaleli, while the Israel team was led by Prof Gershon Saft. Baringo Senator Gideon Moi also attended the ceremony.

Speaking at another function held at Kabarak University dining hall, during a luncheon with the students, the former President hailed the institution saying although it was young, it had already signalled that cannot be taken for granted.

"All of us who are here today, are anxious to hear more and more successes, particularly from the students' body. Do not look down upon yourselves, or let anyone look down upon you," Moi told the students.

He urged the students to observe self-discipline and commit themselves to their goals in order to excel in their daily activities. While addressing Kabarak University students and members of the university management, Moi said the institution started on the right footing to build a tradition of excellence.

Small seed

"Allow me to give you the assurance that of all the good things you do, there is someone who is cheering you on and on, and that person is myself", he said.

He reminded the students to work extra hard saying any small seed of hard work, commitment to duty and moral integrity they sow currently, will contribute to making their careers bright.

The Kabarak University Chancellor congratulated Jacqueline Komen who was recently crowned Miss Tourism Kenya, saying this proved clearly that the institution is a community that is above average in its undertakings.

Moi, who was accompanied for the luncheon by Prof Kaleli, Prof Ronald Chepkilot, and Dr Sellah Kebenei, shared meals with the students and staff.

Moi announced plans to expand facilities in the university to enable more students to enroll and access quality education. Other structures in the pipeline are the state-of-the-art Kabarak University Teaching and Referral Hospital, school of health sciences and expansion of female student's hostels.
