National Land Commission vows to revoke illegal land titles

Illegally acquired title deeds and land malpractices will soon be a thing of the past, a National Land Commission (NLC) official has said.

NLC Vice Chairperson Abigael Mbagaya said regardless of the process of allocation, the commission will repossess all the public land that had been  mis-allocated.

Ms Mbagaya was speaking when she met land owners and residents of Uasin Gishu County at the Eldoret County Hall yesterday.

She said the commission  will also revoke all titles acquired illegally within the region.

Mbagaya said her team had met with the county Land Management Board, adding that they will  move to other parts of the country to establish the situation on the ground.

“We received a lot of complaints from both the county and national government on matters concerning illegal allocation and encroachment of public utility land. Land is an emotive subject and we are committed to ensuring such issues are resolved,” said Mbagaya.

She pointed out that the commission had already conducted investigations on improper land allocation, adding that land review has already commenced.

“The process of reviewing all public land is currently underway and after finding all the needed details, those with illegal land tittles will be revoked while irregular titles will be regularised according to Section 14 of the National Lands Act,” she said

She said Public Utility Land such as hospitals, schools among others have never been available for allocation, urging those encroaching to leave immediately.

Uasin Gishu Land Management Board Chairman Shadrack Tulon said they were ready to handle the sensitive issues. “Once we are done with the reports, we will forward them to NLC,” he said.
