Kimaiyo defends self on community bias claims

Inspector of Police David Kimaiyo has dismissed constant claims by Turkana South MP James Lomenen that he is undermining the security of members of his community.

Kimaiyo, who spoke to The Standard on phone, stated that his office was always open and wondered why some politicians blame him for no apparent reason.

“My office is always open to any person be it a Kenyan or a foreigner. My role is to ensure that security is maintained so that every citizen is free to move or do business without fear in this country,” said Kimaiyo.

The IG confirmed that he recently mounted a search for illegal firearms used by some individuals both in Turkana and other parts of the country, adding that the exercise was purely done according to the laws of Kenya without discrimination, as has been alleged by some politicians.

“When I realised that some people on Pokot/Turkana borders have unauthorised guns, I ordered for disarmament and recaptured several guns. But this does not mean I was targeting a certain community,” Kimaiyo said.
