Kisii County: A boy died and his three siblings were admitted in hospital in critical condition after they drank tea allegedly laced with poison by their mother in Gucha South, Kisii County.

The children drank the tea that the woman had reportedly prepared for her husband with whom she has been embroiled in a domestic row.

The boy, aged eight, died at Etago Health Centre, while the other children were rushed to Kisii Level Five Hospital where they are fighting for their lives.

According to witnesses, the woman returned only last week after a long absence from her matrimonial home in Makara village and had invited her grandmother and mother-in-law to resolve the dispute.

The two arrived on Wednesday morning and held discussions before the woman escorted them as they left at 8am. It was while she was away that the children drank the tea.

The two boys and two girls immediately fell ill and started vomiting. The woman was arrested over the incident.

Her husband was also said to  have been arrested after he reportedly tried to commit suicide in Nyangweta Forest on learning about his son’s death.
