After a long wait, organisers of this year’s Senior Challenge Cup have finally unveiled a title sponsor.

Television firm GOtv are the title sponsors of the two-week event which kicks off on November 27 to December 12 in five venues.

The venues are Nairobi, Machakos, Mombasa, Kisumu and Mumias. Apart from making public the title sponsors, Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has also assured that more money is expected from other corporates and the county governments that will host the event.

The title sponsors splashed out Sh11.25m in cash and another Sh54m for live production of the matches.

GOtv General Manager Felix Kyengo said the sponsorship is a sign of their confidence in the development of football in Kenya and the region. “By virtue of being the sole sponsors, GOtv and SuperSport are reinforcing the ongoing commitment to the Kenya football landscape as a loyal and long-standing friend,”

“Currently, SuperSport provides Kenyans access to more local soccer than any other Pay TV business, through the coverage of the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) on both DStv and GOtv respectively,” he said.

SuperSport East Africa General Manager, Auka Gecheo said the company will continue to intensively promote  Kenyan Sport.

“SuperSport and SuperSport Local Productions Kenya (SLPK) are the biggest contributors to Kenyan sports, through their acquisition of broadcast rights, sponsorship of local sport, training and development of administrators and participants in various sporting codes.,” he said.

“For Cecafa, we will produce all the 26 live matches in high definition (HD) from five different locations, bringing fans action from far and wide,” said Gacheo.

Cecafa Secretary General Nicholas Musonye pledged another Sh8m towards the organisation of the tournament and urged fans to turn up in large numbers to watch matches.

FKF chairman Sam Nyamweya thanked GOtv and said they are now closer to their target.  “Apart from this gesture from GOtv, we have received pledges from the four governors whose counties will host the tournament,” he said.
