Guard claims Devani threatened him with a gun

Police are investigating claims that businessman Raj Devani assaulted a guard and misused his firearm. Devani allegedly threatened to shoot his guard Enock Okindo who works with Rada Security Limited and hit his private parts with the weapon.

According to Okindo, the incident took place on July 8 at around 3am at Shimmers Plaza in Westlands.

The Security guard said Devani arrived at plaza and found the security lights off which apparently irked him.

“Before I could even explain, he grabbed me and pulled out his pistol. He pointed it on my head yelling and calling me all sorts of names. When he realised I had panicked and was on my knees, he went ahead and started hitting my private parts with the gun,” reads part of Okindo’s complaint letter to Commissioner of Police Mathew Iteere.

In the letter also been forwarded to the Office of the Prime Minister, the Attorney General and the Ethics and Corruption Commission, Okindo claims they reported the matter immediately at the Parklands Police Station but no action was taken.

He says the police only called him and his colleagues to record a statement under pressure after many other people in the neighbourhood who heard the commotion complained.

He is now pleading with the Government to intervene and let Devani face full force of the law, arguing that no efforts have been made to arrest Devani and have him arraigned in court.

However, yesterday, Devani denied the claims saying they are false.  “I am a respected man in the society. Police took my gun and have since returned it to me,” he said.
