The graduation season in Uganda has just ended. Makerere dedicated a whole week to graduate its 12,000 students, in different groups. Around Kampala it has been parties, some of them lavish. For instance, I was told of one that hosted 600 guests at a young man’s home with singers, dancers, drummers and a church choir entertaining the guests. Then I thought, was this splendid generosity or irresponsibility, considering the increasing number of poor people in the city?
