A woman in her twenties on Tuesday morning shocked the residents of Old Ferry in Kilifi Town when she stripped naked outside the home of area governor Gideon Mung’aro.
The woman was protesting that she had repeatedly been assaulted by an unnamed person, and that her quest for justice through the police service was being frustrated.
She said she was left with no other choice but to do the bizarre to attract the attention of people who she believed would be of great help to her.
At around 10am, the woman, who we won’t identify for ethical reasons, walked to the governor’s homestead wearing only her panty and a pair of sandals.
Upon reaching the main gate, guards manning Mung’aro’s home denied her entry.
The woman said she decided to go to the county boss’s home after learning that he was away from office.
Her pleas, however, fell on deaf ears, as the governor, whom she wanted to see, had already left home for official duties.
After camping outside Mung’aro’s home for nearly two hours, the woman left, vowing to return to seek an audience with the county chief.
Curious onlookers, who followed the drama as it unraveled, condemned the incident, saying stripping naked outside a governor’s homestead wasn’t the best approach by the woman to have her grievances addressed.
Joshua Keya, who works as a boda boda rider in Kilifi Town, said: “If it was a must that she sees the governor, she should have gone to his office and request for an appointment with him. Stripping naked outside the governor’s homestead was embarrassing.”
The woman is said to be a women’s and human rights activist in Kilifi County.
