Wundanyi MP Danson Mwashako stormed Wundanyi Police Station on Friday night to demand the release of his supporters arrested for flouting Covid-19 rules.

The supporters, who were holding a rally, clashed with the police. Three people, including OCS Shadrack Mumo, were injured during the confrontation.

“Even after disrupting my rally, the police arrested and teargassed me and my supporters. They seized mobile phones from my supporters, chairs, tables and public address equipment and detained them at the station,” said Mwashako.

He said he will petition the Inspector General to transfer all police officers in Wundanyi, claiming some had overstayed. Taita Sub-County Police Commander Onesmus Kombe said the officers disrupted the MP’s rally after he went against the Covid-19 regulations.
