Former soldier grilled over incitement to violence

Officer quizzed over raid

A former military officer was yesterday quizzed over allegations of inciting youth to invade Kasigau Ranch.

Tulia Amiri, alongside a senior manager of ABE Club Amos Makalo and nine ranch directors were questioned by Voi sub-county security committee for hours. ABE Club is a local humanitarian organisation.

They were quizzed to shed light on the recent invasion of a disputed mining site at the vast ranch by more than 1,000 youth.

Major (rtd) Amiri, Mr Makalo and some directors of the ranch had been linked to the invasion of the controversial mining site but have since denied the claims.

“I am representing the ruling coalition at the grassroots level and I cannot incite the youth to cause violence. I am a peace loving Kenyan,” the former Kenya Defense Forces officer told the security team.

The meeting was chaired by Voi Deputy County Commissioner Joseph Lewa and attended by the area's sub-county Police Commander Joseph Chesire, detectives and the Kenya Wildlife Service personnel. [Renson Mnyamwezi]
