Taita-Taveta County staff arrested over sexual defilement claims

Voi: Defilement suspect yet to appear in court

Police are holding a senior Taita-Taveta County employee for allegedly defiling a seven-year-old girl in Voi town.

The suspect was arrested at his workplace and driven to Voi where he was detained for questioning.

The minor is said to be the county official's neighbour.

On Tuesday, police sources said the suspect would be taken to court yesterday to answer to defilement charges but that did not happen.

The suspect remained in custody yesterday amid fears that a plot was being hatched to free him without being charged.

Governor Granton Samboja said police had notified him about the arrest and said the law should take its course.
