Mob attacks Kilifi family over witchcraft claims

A family in Kilifi County is fighting for their lives after some 100 men attacked them on Friday on allegations of witchcraft.

The victims, a father, his 24-year-old daughter and 21-year-old son suffered serious body tissue injuries following the attack.

Their house and granary were torched by the angry mob and police officers had to use tear gas to disperse the mob. Kilifi OCPD Joshua Ole Leina said the group accused 62-year-old Stephen Karisa Mkare of bewitching his own son and a nephew who passed on in 2009 following a road accident and in December last year respectively.

He said the police are in pursuit of the suspects involved in the heinous act, and were positive they would apprehend them since they were known by locals.
