Kikuyu elders call upon communities to end female genital mutilation

The Kikuyu Council of Elders have called upon communities who are still practising female genital mutilation (FGM) to stop immediately.

Led by their National Chairman Wachira Kiago, the elders said they support efforts by Government to end the outdated practise.

"We as the Council of Elders are united against FGM and anybody promoting it is degrading the girl-child," said Wachira.

The elders were speaking at their headquarters at Homeland Inn onThika Road at an event dubbed 'Celebrating the Girl Child' which was attend by the Kiambu Women Rep Anne Gatheca, on the weekend.

"Girls should avoid skimpy outfits, respect their bodies and stop prostitution," said Gatheca.
