Wa Iria angered by lateness of his cabinet at public function

There was drama at Murang'a's General Ihura stadium as hundreds were invited to occupy seats reserved for dignitaries.

Governor Mwangi wa Iria told residents who had come to witness an event he was presiding over to move to the dais and sit on empty seats meant for senior officials in his government.

Wa Iria seemed to have been infuriated by the absence of the invited officials at the function minutes after he had arrived.

The New Year eve event was organised to present gifts to the needy in the county.

The governor got annoyed after he found empty seats meant for the county senior staff at the dais, where he remained alone for three minutes.

He arrived at the venue only to find hundreds of the needy standing under the tents reserved for them.

He ordered his aides to allow those without seats to be accommodated at the main dais and occupy the seats meant for the dignitaries.

MEDICAL COVER

"My guests, who are old and people with disabilities, cannot be left to stand in the hot sun when those supposed to serve them are in the Christmas and New Year celebration mood," said the evidently bitter governor.

The county chiefs arrived 30 minutes later and remained stranded as senior employees of the county government tried to secure seats for them.

During the function, thousands were given gifts donated by the county government and sponsors.

The governor said the local county assembly had formulated a policy to give at least 35,000 needy families a medical insurance cover to help them access treatment in public and private facilities.
