Murang’a, Kenya: High-ranking politicians and top government officials from Mt Kenya region were in rare shock after they were denied a chance to address mourners during a burial ceremony in Murang’a County for lack of time.

The burial of Joseph Kamau Tharuma Munga at Pioneer School in Maragua was unique as only close family members and friends were given a chance to give their condolences as the politicians and senior government officials watched.

The deceased was a son of influential business magnate and Equity Bank Chairman Peter Munga.

Only Cabinet Secretaries James Macharia (Health) and Davis Chirchir (Energy) were given a chance to read their condolence messages as they represented President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto.

Thuruma, 38, died about three weeks ago following injuries sustained at an entertainment spot in Nairobi’s Westlands. Embu Governor Martin Wambora and Senator Lenny Kivuti had asked for a chance but that was denied due to “time factor”.
