KQ Dreamliners to arrive in 2013

The nine Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners that were ordered by Kenya Airways in 2006 will be delivered in the fourth quarter of 2013, Managing Director Titus Naikuni said yesterday.

Naikuni broke the news after signing a deal with aircraft manufacturing company, Boeing, which will see the carrier purchase four additional 787-8 aircrafts.

"The 787-8 Dreamliner fits well with our expansion strategy, giving us an opportunity to expand our market beyond the current offering, while cementing our mandate of connecting Africa to the world and world to Africa," said Naikuni.

KQ signed a purchase agreement in 2006 for nine 787-8 aircraft. The first Dreamliner was expected to enter into KQ service line in October last year.

The new aircraft will be used to replace the ageing 767 aircraft, as well debut on other new long-range routes.

"We can only achieve our expansion strategy with the right equipment and we are particularly pleased with Boeing, despite the delay experienced in the 787 program," Naikuni said.

Speaking on behalf of Boeing, Africa Sales Director Rob Faye said passengers would enjoy the Dreamliner innovative new interior environment with higher humidity, wider seats and aisles, and larger windows, which have greatly improved the overall flying experience.
