Busia: Kin cry foul over killing of businessman

The family of a businessman killed last Thursday along the Busia-Kisumu highway wants the police to investigate the incident.

Michael Gitau suspects that his son Peter Njuguna, who ran a clothes business in Busia town, may have been targetted in a murder plot.

Mr Gitau said he received a call at around 11pm last Thursday that his son had been attacked and left for dead at Sikulu in Mundika.

He sent one of his sons to the scene who found Njuguna writhing in pain and bleeding profusely by the roadside.

According to Mr Gitau, nobody was found at the scene.

The victim was rushed to the county referral hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

“The police are capable of unearthing the circumstances that led to the death of my son... Even if it is because of business rivalry, we deserve to be told the truth,” said Gitau.

An autopsy report showed that Njuguna was hit on the head several times with a blunt object.

Divisional Criminal Investigation Officer in Matayos Sub-county Samuel Agutu confirmed having received a complaint from the family of the deceased and said investigations had been launched.

“We are still investigating the matter and soon we may arraign some suspects,” said Mr Agutu.
