Mother and sons arrested over death of her co-wife

A woman and her three sons were arrested in connection with the killing of her co-wife.

The four are being held at the Kakamega Central Police station and will be arraigned today to face murder charges.

“The victim — only identified as Flora —was cleaning utensils when she heard her co-wife telling their neighbour she had built a big house, which she had converted into a lodging and was even having illicit love affairs with young men in the village,” claimed Maureen Okwomi, a witness.

According to Ms Okwomi, the victim got irritated and told her co-wife to stop defaming her, leading to an altercation.

“The suspect was joined by her three sons, who rained blows and kicks on the victim. They hit her on the chest and stomach. She started bleeding profusely and succumbed to her injuries about 30 minutes later,” Ms Okwomi claimed.

County Police Commander Wilkister Vera said all the four suspects had been arrested and would be presented in court.

In a separate incident, a 16-year-old student is fighting for his life at Kakamega County Teaching and Referral Hospital after being stabbed twice in the stomach, allegedly by his friend over a Sh10 debt.

The incident took place at Ivakale village, Shinyalu sub-county.
