DCI acts on fake social media account of CS Monica Juma

The Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) on Monday asked members of the public who had been defrauded through a fake Facebook account of Foreign Affairs CS Monica Juma to come forward.

This is after it emerged that the account was being used to ask for money from unsuspecting Kenyans.

Earlier, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through its official Twitter account noted that CS Juma has only one account and does not have a Facebook account.

“Our attention has been drawn to a number of social media accounts that are impersonating the CS MFA (Amb Monica Juma-@Diplomacy_Kenya). Unfortunately, these accounts are being used to solicit money from unsuspicious individuals.

“Kindly note that the CS has one twitter account (@Diplomacy_Kenya) ONLY and NO Facebook account.

“We, therefore, urge anyone with information on those operating the account below or any other account to share with us or investigating agencies for action,” read an official statement from the ministry.

The DCI revealed that detectives from the Cyber Crime Unit were already investigating the matter and arrests would be made soon.

“We urge anyone who has been defrauded through this manner to report to us through our email:[email protected] or DM us.

“Detectives from the Cyber Crime Unit have already commenced investigations into this matter with the aim of bringing all those involved to justice,” said the DCI.

This comes just a month after a man conning Kenyans in the name of Majority Leader Aden Duale was arrested.

It emerged that the suspect, James Ombui Oire, was running a fake Facebook page that impersonated the legislator and asked people to send him Sh2000 to register for scholarships.
