Pay with a selfie? MasterCard is developing an app for face-based transactions

Selfies have become a part of everyday life, they are in our coffee and on safety guides.

But the weirdest seflie situation yet is the one being tested by MasterCard. The card company is developing a whole new system revolving around YOUR selfie.

The art of selfie-ing will now give users the opportunity to pay for online goods by using their face to verify their identity.

Using new biometrics software, which will be integrated into the app, customers will be given the option to purchase things using their face or fingers for authentication.

The app requires you to blink repeatedly so that it recognises you as a human, rather than a still image. This makes it almost impossible for anyone but you to use this method of payment.

However, the technology behind facial recognition payments isn't exactly new as search giant Google has previously considered the software.

MasterCard will soon try out the software on a test group of 500 people and the company hopes to launch the software as soon as possible.

"The new generation, which is into selfies. I think they'll find it cool. They'll embrace it," MasterCard's security expert Ajay Bhalla told CNN.

MasterCard has partnered with top mobile companies such as Google, Blackberry, Apple, Microsoft to ensure the application can be used on all platforms.
