Kenya Sevens were on Saturday relegated to the ninth-place quarterfinals at the Hong Kong Sevens after finishing bottom of Group D.

Shujaa who are battling to avoid relegation played beautiful rugby reminiscing the good old glory days of Collins Injera, Humphrey Kayange and Biko Adema but could not grind any win at the eighth leg of the World Rugby Sevens Series.

After losing 29-5 to series leaders New Zealand on Friday, the Damian McGrath led side needed to win against Ireland and South Africa to stand a chance of reaching the Main Cup quarterfinals.

However, Shujaa could not pull anything from their armory to strike down their opponents as they finished bottom.

Billy Odhiambo and Alvin Otieno were on target for Kenya but the East Africans could not overpower the Irish who ended up winning 26-14.

Against South Africa, Police Officer Jeff Oluoch, Billy Odhiambo and captain Nelson Oyoo crossed over the white wash but Kenya still lost 26-17.

Shujaa will now hope to finish ninth looking for maximum points to salvage their desperate relegation battle situation.
