IEBC dismiss claims eligible voters being turned away in Embakasi West

Embakasi West Returning Officer Tabitha Muli says she has not received any complaints of voters being turned away.

This comes after several voters raised concerns about being told they cannot vote as their details are missing.

A spot check by the Standard indicates that while some voters had been told they could not vote, others had been referred to other polling stations as far as Kitengela and Machakos.

But Muli said the only issue she had noted was the failure of KIEMS kits in some of the polling stations which caused the delay.

"Voting in almost all the polling stations started by 6am apart from the station which had an issue with the kit. We have however replaced and as we speak normalcy has resumed," she said

She said another issue of concern is how voters are wasting a lot of time verifying their details on the board instead of seeking assistance from IEBC officials.

"We don't want them to spend so much time on the board, we have had to mobilise teams which are assisting us in directing those who are coming in. Why should we have empty stations yet people are crowded at the gate verifying their details," she said.
