Kanu to field senatorial candidate in Homa Bay

Kanu will field a candidate for Homa Bay senatorial seat in the August 9 polls.

This is after the party’s first vice-chairman Tom Ojanga declared interest in the seat.

Mr Ojanga, who hails from Homa Bay town Constituency, hopes to unseat Senator Moses Kajwang’.

He is now facing competition from Kajwang, the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD)’s Chief Advisor Kenneth Kembona, Kabondo East MCA James Ochieng’, Samora Kalosi and Michae Kojo.

Dr Kambona, Kajwang’, Ochieng’ and Kalosi are battling for the ODM party ticket.

Mr Kojo, a human rights activist, is vying as an independent candidate.

Mr Ojanga said fighting corruption in Homa Bay county government will be his first priority.

Addressing journalists in Homa Bay town, Ojanga said corruption had impeded service delivery in the county.

“Corruption is an enemy to service delivery since the inception of devolution. I am coming up with fresh ideas for fighting corruption,” said Mr Ojanga.

The vice-chairman attributed lapses in service delivery in the county to lack of proper oversight.

Homa Bay County is a stronghold of ODM party. But Mr Ojanga said this will not impede his senatorial endeavours.

He argued that Kanu is one of the political parties that supports the presidential candidature of ODM leader Raila Odinga

Ojanga maintained that Kanu is a friendly party in the county.
