Ban on land sub-division and change of ownership transactions lifted

Property market stakeholders have welcomed a move by the county government to lift the ban on land sub-division and change of ownership transactions by next month.

The ban was established last year following claims of increased fraudsters that have continued to grab and encroach on public utility parcels in the area.

Those who lauded the decision include Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry County chairman Charles Mose who said the ban has halted numerous land transaction deals.

"This ban has had a negative impact on the progress that the local property market had begun gaining once the devolved units were established," he said.

He continued: "Lifting of this ban will provide an impetus for investors who had shifted their base to other counties to return and pump their money into our local market that is now attracting a lot of new investors."

Various stakeholders had faulted the county government for imposing the ban, saying they should have been consulted because they are key players in the sector.
