EACC Lawyer lands global role at the Criminal Law Committee

Joyce Munene, lawyer, investigator with the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC). A lawyer, investigator with the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has been appointed as a liaison officer for the Criminal Law Committee. Joyce Munene, was appointed by the International Bar Association (IBA) representing the African Region. Upon receiving the news of her appointment, Munene said "I am happy to have secured this position at a time when Kenya is advancing its global and regional influence and presence in diverse fronts. I look forward to making a contribution in the regional quest for good governance, justice and rule of law in line with objectives of the International Bar Association." The IBA is a prestigious and globally recognised organization founded in 1947 and has continued to be the most distinguished legal organization representing legal practitioners, bar associations and law societies globally. IBA main objective is the promotion and preservation of the rule of law internationally. It has grown to include individual international lawyers from leading law firms and almost 200 bar associations and law societies across the five continents. The organization plays a critical role in providing assistance and legal programmes around the world focusing on issues such as; international law reforms and mapping out the strategic direction of legal profession across the world. The African Regional Forum serves as the executive committee for the IBA in the African Region. This appointment reinforces strong commitment to enhance African presence in the International Bar Association. With this appointment, one of the key roles is to represent the African region in the committee meetings and conferences. Joyce Munene is an advocate of the High Court of Kenya and currently an Assistant Director with the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission. Prior to joining the Commission, she worked in the private sector and the Parliamentary Service Commission. Ms. Munene is also a forensic investigator trained with reputable organizations such as the FBI and the Independent Commission against Corruption (ICAC) of Hong Kong. She holds a Master of Laws in International Criminal Justice and a Bachelor of Laws. In 2022, she was awarded by the President of the Republic of Kenya with the Head of State's Commendation (HSC).
