Detectives in Nairobi are holding two people who were arrested after luring a man in a dating site and robbing him Sh453,000 on Saturday night.

According to the statement by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the suspects used their female colleague in a dating site to lay a trap for the man whose name has not been disclosed. They then took him to Imara Daima Estate in Nairobi where they robbed him at gunpoint.

The DCI stated: “Tonight DCI detectives based at Lang'ata have arrested two Robbery with Violence suspects who extorted Sh453,000 from an Indian national after luring him to Muimara estate at Imara Daima in Nairobi through an online dating site.

On September 22, 2020, the lady suspect; Mary Mukii Kioko met the victim at the dating site before luring him to a house in the said estate, where on arrival three men joined them in the room.”

The detectives revealed that the gang used force and violence to compel the victim to disclose his banking details which they used to siphon money from his bank accounts.

“Jointly, the gang tortured the victim forcing him to reveal his ATM and Mpesa pins after which they withdrew the said amount through various avenues and later dumped him along Mombasa Road near Sameer Business Park,” DCI revealed.

The detectives responded after being notified of the incident and raided a house in which the victim was being held up in Imara Daima, after which they arrested the two suspects. The police, however, revealed that two other suspects, Benard Mbusu (the house owner) and David Moses Limiri escaped over the perimeter fence.

“Search conducted in the house led to the confiscation of six mobile phones, a PDQ Coop Bank machine, assorted ATM cards, Coop Bank Agent book among other items,” the police said.

The police have launched a manhunt for the two suspects on the run as their colleagues wait for arraignment tomorrow.
