Grothey beats 179 golfers to clinch the NCBA Nyali leg series

Home player Olaf Grothey beat a team of 179 golfers to clinch the 2023 NCBA Golf Series played at the par 71 Nyali golf and Country club course in Mombasa County on Saturday.

Playing off handicap 3, the home player Grothey returned an excellent score of one over par 72 gross to claim overall title of the tournament.

“This has been one of my lucky days winning this impressive event because I was well prepared and all worked well as I had planned, “said Grothey.

The tourney was the NCBA  eleventh leg  in its ongoing series  country wide  where  club mate handicap 6 Mohdhar Abubakar  carded 76 gross to win  the Gross Men’s  position in the men’s  while handicap 10 Jimmy Kingori with 77 gross was the runners up and the Men winner in stable ford category was  handicap 25 Michael Kariuki  with 44 points.

Mary Kandu playing off handicap 12 survived  on a count back  to win the Lady’s title  on 82 gross  after tying on the same score with handicap 14 Trupena Oyaro  who was the  runners up.

Among the juniors, Alyssa Jamal, showcased remarkable skills and talent, managing an impressive score of 78 gross to claim the bragging rights among the juniors.

Following their triumph, the six top golfers became the latest addition to the list of players who have booked their slots to play in the tournament’s finals set for December this year at Sigona Golf Club.

In other categories, Mughal Akram and Pauline Gichara were the winners in  the Longest Drive challenge for the men and ladies, respectively while Rose Njogu claimed the Nearest to the Pin prize after her shot landed only 14 feet away from the 18th hole.

Nyali Golf and Country Club Captain Dinesh Sasan thanked the Golfers for turning up in large numbers and the Sponsor for choosing the club to host the event.

Sasan took the opportunity to announce that next Saturday, 19th, August, the Club will be hosting the Uganda Airlines golf tournament and urged golfers to register in large numbers.

NCBA Acting Group Director, Global Markets, Raphael Agung said the Series has helped create an engagement and interaction platform for the bank.

Currently, 48 golfers, including 11 juniors, have secured their slots to participate in the grand finale and now action shifts to the Kitale Golf Club for the 12th event in the Series Calendar to be held next week on August 19.
