NJEGA HOGS BRAGGING RIGHTS: As home golfer Shah bags overall honours at Britam Mt Kenya golf day in Nyeri

James Njega carded 20 stablebeford points on the outward nine and added 21 stableford points, amassing a total of 41 stableford points to triumph during the Britam Mt Kenya region golf tournament played at the par 72 Nyeri Golf club over the weekend.

Playing off handicap 14, home golfer Njega - a Nyeri-based lawyer and a member of a compact fourball christened "Mungetho Success", was in outstanding form as he edged out the Men winner Khilan Shah who carded 16 stableford points on the outward nine and 23 points on the inward nine to lift the Overall prize.

The tournament saw a large turnout as 115 golfers took part in the tournament, which placed it as the second largest tourney after the annual Kibaki trophy that saw 119 golfers play last year.

Flo Gathu was the Lady winner after returning a score of 16 stableford points on the outward nine and 18 stableford points on the inward nine for a total of 34 stableford points to beat Susan Ngure 34 (17+17) stableford points on countback to Ladies second.

Nyahururu Sports Club captain Musa Koskei, playing off handicap 8, was men first on 39 (19+20) stableford points beating Jediel Muriungi of Nanyuki Sports Club to men second, who carded 39 (22+17) stableford points on countback.

Handicap 10 Samwel Kiragu carded 38 (21+17) stableford points to take men's third prize as Senior golfer George Kiguta proved his mettle by posting 37 (17+20) stableford points to take men's fourth prize on countback.

"I'm grateful that today was my lucky day, thanks to my usual playing partners in Mungetho Success who had marked me as the horse today. My game was fantastic. My clubs behaved well and the balls didn't disappoint either. They kept going into the holes. Thank you Britam for this great opportunity," said an elated Njega during the winner's speech.

The First Nine prize went to A. Waweru with 22 stableford points on countback as Father Waweru took the Second Nine on 20 stableford points.

The Sponsor/Guest prize went to Britam Asset Management Ceo Kenneth Kaniu, who posted an impressive score of 36 (19+17) stableford points with David Karuri taking the Nearest to the Pin prize.

Nanyuki Sports Club's Peter Mwangi was the Gross winner on 74 Gross points Handicap 28, Moses Murimi managed 11 (5+6) stableford points to take the Best Effort/Piga Mingi prize.

Nanyuki Sports Club Jimmy Yates won the Men Longest Drive prize as Nyeri Golf Clubs Stella Mwangi won the Longest Drive in the Ladies category, while B Karigu returned a score of 35 (17+18) stableford points to lift the Caddy prize.
