Muhindi guides Flash Harry to double victory

James Muhindi was the toast of the day, the Ngong Road-based jockey winning two of the eight races on the July race card at the Jockey Club racecourse.

Muhindi guided Flash Harry and Silverstone Air to victory in Jardin Lattiffe Cup (1,400m) and Sir Ali Bin Salim Stakes (1,600m) races respectively, earning a total of Sh69,540 during the UAP-Old Mutual-sponsored event.

The insurance firm also donated a tractor to aid in maintaining the race track and the Golf Park golf course.

“UAP Old Mutual has worked with the Jockey Club over the years to drive various brand-building initiatives.

“We have been able to gain visibility through this and in turn provided support for sporting talent in an area that may be deemed less visible in view of the popularisation of other sports,” said CEO, Peter Mwangi.

“We believe that corporates have a big role to play in ensuring the youth have the chance to grow themselves through their talents and that is why we are involved in sports events like Ndakaini Half Marathon, The Bible Run and golf plus others that we are a part of.”

Other winners on the day included Vipingo, jockeyed by Richard Kibet, Lettfot, ridden by Kelvin Nganga (Nairobi Town Plate) Stuff Cookie, who won the 1,600m race for three-year olds, guided by Henry Muya. [Standard Sports]
