"No dream is too big" is the theme for this year’s Property and Home Living expo scheduled to take place from next Thursday, February 19 to Sunday, February 22, at the Sarit Centre.

This time round, the real estate players are dreaming big. This being one of Kenya’s premier property exhibitions, the occasion will bring together property developers and service providers.

The Property and Home Living expo is celebrating its seventh year having launched its first exhibition in 2003. Last year, it changed the event from being an annual event to being a bi-annual event, held twice a year.

Abdi Juma, the event co-ordinator, is optimistic that the exhibition will be better this time compared to the previous events. The theme resonates better with the immense growth realised in the real estate sector in the past few years. This year’s expo has once again attracted stakeholders from abroad, including a major sponsor from Dubai.

Gold sponsors

"We are pleased that the expo will showcase more developers this time round," says Abdi. New exhibitors include Executive Properties, Legend Management and Kimco Property Development.

Abdi says the exhibition has more to offer this year. The Dubai-based Damac Properties will be the expo’s gold sponsors for the fifth time running. Hass Consult, a leading real estate company, is the silver sponsor for the second time running.

Esther Karegi, head of marketing at Regent Management, gives the exhibition a vote of confidence. "We have been participating in this exhibition for a long time and I must say they help a lot," she says. "At every expo and after, we record good results as we ultimately get the kind of clients we are targeting."

She says property exhibitions have grown into a success with the public and they continue to record more people attending each year. "Kenyans like something out of the ordinary, which is why expos are a good idea because it provides them with a wide variety to choose from and allows them to freely interact with the players in the sector, including property developers and mortgage providers," she explains.

Service providers

Mwenda Makathimo, the managing director for Vidmerck Ltd, a real estate management company will also exhibit his products at the expo. Drawing from past experiences when the company recorded increased business from the expo, Makathimo says the forum provides an excellent opportunity for customer feedback.

"It is also a great marketing platform for our products," he adds. "Through the expo we have met clients for each of our products, including property valuation, management, buying and letting. The expo also enables us to interact and know what the other players are doing."

Service providers expected at the exhibition include Housing Finance as well as Savings and Loans, the mortgage arm of the Kenya Commercial Bank group.
