Kenya's Diani Grand Reef Beach Resort & Spa bets on conferencing to boost tourist numbers

Diani Grand Reef Beach Resort & Spa is set to unveil a new conference facility, with a holding capacity of 600 delegates, which would make it one of the largest in the Coast region, before the end of the year.

This comes amid growing interest in Kenya as a conference destination.

“We have left nothing to chance as we try to tap into the niche meetings, incentives, conferencing, exhibitions (MICE ) segment, which has over the years helped sustain the tourism industry,’’ the resort’s CEO, Titus Kangangi, said.

Tourism Cabinet Secretary Phyllis Kandie has noted that the MICE sector has set clear objectives, a strategic direction as well as timelines to ensure Kenya becomes a preferred events destination. The ministry is working on boosting Kenya’s MICE profile by adding on convention centres, as well as other infrastructure projects, to help Kenya bid successfully for high-profile international events.
