Safaricom shares hit 5-year high after record profits on Tuesday

NAIROBI, KENYA: Shares in Safaricom, Kenya's leading telecoms firm, climb 5.6 percent to hit a five-year high of 7.50 shillings a day after the company announced record profits on the back of strong non-voice revenues.

Stocks in Safaricom last traded at 7.50 shillings in July 2008, a month after the company started trading on the now Nairobi Securities Exchange.

Safaricom is 40 percent owned by Britain's Vodafone.
