JKIA certified paving way for direct flights to USA

NAIROBI, KENYA: Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) is ready to facilitate direct flights between Kenya and the United States of America.

Kenya Airports Authority on Wednesday said JKIA has achieved Last Point of Departures status following the announcement between President Uhuru Kenyatta and President Donald Trump.

“This is a major achievement for Kenya as JKIA becomes one of the elite African airports to be certified as a last point of departure to the United States. JKIA is now poised to become the premier hub in Africa.” said KAA Managing Director, Jonny Andersen

Kenya Airways will operate a daily non-stop flight to New York with the inaugural flight scheduled for October 28.

The airline is counting on the tourism, with the US being a key source market of vacationers, as well as opportunities to Kenyan businesses accorded by the African Growth Opportunity Act (AGOA) to sustain the flights.

The national carrier said in a previous interview that it expected the flights between Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) and New York’s JFK Airport to play a critical role in returning it profit making territory.
