We should consider dialogue as opposed to swearing-in; Kalonzo says ahead of NASA swearing-in

National Super Alliance (NASA) Coalition Co-Principal and leader of The Wiper Democratic movement Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka wants the ruling party to dialogue with the Opposition.

Speaking to supporters on Saturday, January 19 after handing a nomination certificate to Edith Nyenze for Kitui West MP seat under Wiper ticket, Mr. Kalonzo said that if the country doesn’t dialogue now, there will be dire consequences later on.

He said that President Uhuru Kenyatta should look at the state of the country and agree to talk to NASA leader Raila Odinga before January 30, the swearing-in date for Raila Odinga and himself as the People’s President and deputy respectively.

"You are not weak if you read the mood in the country and show leadership. If we don't hold dialogue now, the type of dialogue we shall hold after January 30 will be the Somalia and the South Sudan type of dialogue. Is that where we want to take this country?" he said.

The government has warned NASA of conducting the inauguration which has been postponed twice saying that by doing so, the latter will be doing treason which is punishable by death penalty.

NASA, on the other hand, has stood its ground saying that they are ready to face the consequences that the swearing-in will bring.

Kalonzo’s remarks were echoed by another NASA leader Nyamira Governor John Nyagarama who said that Uhuru and Raila should act gentlemen and hold talks that will solve the dispute between them.

The governor was speaking in Meru on January 20 where he said that the chaos that will emerge from Raila’s coronation will affect both political divides and they should not let it happen.

Despite being a strong NASA leader, Former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale also pointed out the need for dialogue as the swearing-in date comes.

According to Khalwale, holding talks is better than the swearing-in option and both leaders should consider it.

Kitutu Chache South's Richard Onyonka says that NASA could go and swear-in Raila but he acknowledges Uhuru as the ruling President.
