Transport: Commuters stranded along Nairobi-Kangundo highway following saccos standoff

Section of Kangundo-Nairobi Highway blocked Monday morning following standoff between rival SACCOs

KANGUNDO, KENYA; Transport along Nairobi-Kangundo highway has been paralyzed after two matatu saccos plying the route, Kam and Makata blocked the road at Athi Bridge near Joska shopping center earlier today (Monday).

The operators of the two saccos are citing harassment of their crew by a rival sacco, Eastern Bypass Travelers Investment (EBTI) which operates in the same route.

Dozens of matatus operated by Kam and Makata saccos have blocked the entire road at Athi Bridge, rendering the busy highway impassable by motorists travelling from either direction.

Police officers led by Matungulu OCPD Joshua Lutukai and Kangundo DCIO, David Wafula are currently engaging the sacco officials at the scene in bid to end the stalemate.
