Sony Sugar recalls its Managing Director Jane Pamela

South Nyanza (Sony) Sugar Company Managing Director Jane Pamela is back to work after her suspension was lifted.

At a special meeting called over the weekend, the miller’s board resolved to recall Ms Pamela to avoid paralysing operations at a time when Sony is preparing for annual maintenance.

Sources at the board told The Standard that if her suspension was upheld, it would have hurt the miller’s operations as she is still a signatory to the firm’s accounts.

Sony received close to Sh300 million from the Commodity Fund to repair the factory’s crushing machine.

Yesterday, the miller’s chairman, Ambrose Weda, confirmed that the board met and resolved to reinstate the MD with immediate effect, but with conditions attached, including her not sitting in “the investigation panel tracing the loss of sugar worth millions (of shillings) from Sony’s warehouse”.

The board sent Pamela on compulsory leave a fortnight ago to pave way for investigations into the loss of more than 60 tonnes of sugar worth at least Sh5 million from the factory’s warehouse, although preliminary reports indicate the loss could be larger.
